What’s the best way to see a live PGA event on the course?

seniors pga
Tom asked:

I’m going to a Senior PGA event this weekend. I’ve never been to a live event, and don’t know if I should hang out at one hole all day or walk around. And if I walk around, I wonder what protocol is to stay out of players’ way and in general not be rude (while getting optimal views).

  1. There may be grandstands on some of the holes where you can watch the approaches to the green, or if a par 3 see the results of the tee shots. Then pick a ********* you have heard of and follow them for a couple of holes . See the way they play the holes. There may be a chance to follow them closely. We haven’t followed the seniors since the days of Bob Charles and Chi Chi so the viewers closeness may have changed. You may also want to sit behind a tee box and watch them drive. In that manner you will have experienced all the facets of the game. Don’t forget a good hot dog and a brew.

  2. Most of the courses they play have vantage points where you can stand or sit on top of a hill ot knoll and see a couple of greens and a couple of tees so you watch some approach shots, chipping, putting and tee shots without doing much walking. Sitting in bleachers at one hole gets boring because you only get to see one group at a time. Don’t worry about getting in the way of the players. The marshals at these events do a great job of keeping the spectators contained so the players can proceed with minimal distractions. And when a marshal holds up a “QUIET” sign, that’s really what he means and he will tell you so if you’re not quiet. They really do a great job.
