Why Do They Do This?

I know that this doesn’t apply to everywhere but I don’t understand the thinking of golf course management. The phrase, “in season” seems to have a direct link to not making sense. Here’s my problem.

Why do the golf courses in the south double the price for a round of golf ‘in season”?  Now I know there are a lot of golfers that think like I do and don’t play much at this time of the year. I just can’t see paying 45.00 to play a round, when out of season I can play for 20.00. Let me explain myself so you understand where I am coming from.

When you go to your favorite course there are certain things that a golfer will do just about every time. First you will grab a bucket of balls and go to the driving range. After the range you will probably slip into the snack shop and purchase something to drink and maybe a bite to eat. Now you go to the pro shop, sign in and pay for your golf. At this time you might say to yourself, I really could use a new glove or a sleeve of balls that you want to try. More money spent, right.

Now off to the first tee you go. After finishing the first 9, you’re back at the club house and need a potty stop. Before you leave for 10 you think maybe we should get something to drink and a hot dog. Oh by the way, why not some extra cause it’s warming up out there and we sure don’t want to dehydrate. Again, more money spent.

Ok, games over and you are feeling good about the day so you and your buddies slip into the lounge for a couple of gold drinks. You guest it, more money spent. I think you get the idea that I am trying to make.

Bottom line here is, why don’t they leave the cost of a round of golf the same year around? If I play once or twice a week off season, you could bet that I would play more in season, because of better weather, if the prices were the same. You do not have to be a math major to see the money that the courses are leaving on the table.

The profits made out of the snack bar and lounge are much better than anything else they have to offer. You do the math.
